Her professional presentation doesn’t hide her insecurity and doubt. It’s no surprise to learn that she’s struggling with roller-coaster income, low-paying clients, small training classes and the frustration that comes with a job that pays the bills but doesn’t leave much over for fun.

Ask them the top 3 things they want and you get two very different answers:

Nat: I want to change more people’s lives, make more money, and speak on bigger stages.

Sally: I want to make decent money every month, never worry about paying the bills, and really feel that my work is valuable.

Surely the Different Results are a Factor of Personality, Opportunity, and Education

Actually, they’re not. Sally and Nat both have backgrounds in health sciences, along with certifications in NLP, kinesiology, massage, and more. They both started work around the same time and established their own business in the same year for the same reasons and they’ve been friends since high school.

In fact, if you were going to predict 5-10 years ago which one of them would be more successful, you’d have picked Sally because of her consistency and diligence in learning new skills and refining existing ones as well as her bubbling personality.

So What IS the Difference that Makes the DIFFERENCE?

About 6 months after Nat started her business she was totally frustrated. Her finances were in such bad shape she didn’t even want to look at her bank account and she was barely making expenses. She had invested in “fail-safe marketing program” that wasn’t bringing in clients, and she was networking to no avail. She felt that she was spinning her wheels and she was sick of it.

Do You Even KNOW What You Want Your Business to Look Like?

It’s one thing to have a business plan, it’s quite a different thing to know where you want that plan to take you.

Our sessions start with what I call ‘The Magic Wand Exercise’ to help you clarify that. It’s an exercise that I encourage participants to revisit because when they see results their vision grows. Essentially, it’s a question of thinking about what you would like to achieve if there were no limitations on your business and it’s very powerful because once you know what you want from your business, it’s relatively easy to design your roadmap to get there.

So, here’s the deal…

There are a lot of weekend or online courses you can do that claim to teach you how to run a lifestyle business that provides you with the income, success, and time you want. Some of them offer very solid general advice. Most of these offer peer support in Facebook groups or communities, some even offer ‘expert’ assistance. The problem is… you don’t know whether the feedback you get is qualified or not! Lots of people in those courses and groups are struggling and experimenting… even some of the ‘experts’ are employees, not business owners. In the end, you’re stuck making decisions for yourself.

AND… Business coaches and coaching groups come in all shapes and sizes. Some are great. Others aren’t so great. Some business coaches’ experience comes from running a corporate department profitably… and I probably don’t need to tell you how different that is from running an SMB profitably when not doing so means personal financial hardship.
